Once one of the first names on the Celtic team sheet, James Forrest has seen his name slip down the pecking order over the past couple of years as he has struggled to remain fit. The winger has barely featured for the Hoops in recent times, as he has had to deal with one injury after another and spent significant time on the sidelines. And even when he has been on the pitch, he has not looked particularly impressive.

Thus, most Celtic fans would have been surprised to see his name in the starting XI in the Hoops’ recent game against Livingston.

Believed to be one of the toughest tests remaining this season, Celtic faced a difficult task to get all three points away at the Tony Macaroni Arena, something that they had failed to do in several attempts in the past. This time around, they were able to walk out with a 3-1 victory though, with Forrest scoring one of the goals.

Forrest barely celebrated after scoring Celtic’s third on the day and he has now explained why. As reported by The Scotsman, he said:

"“There was maybe a bit of relief.“It was to make it 3-0 as well so all round…I have not scored in a few games and it helped the team get to 3-0, so it was maybe a bit of relief. I can’t even remember now, I was just relieved and buzzing that I scored.”"

While he might not have celebrated much, it is safe to say that it was an important goal for Forrest and was a reminder that he still has something to offer to this team.

His biggest task right now will be to remain fit, something that he has struggled to do for a couple of years now. Let’s see if that changes moving forward.

If Forrest is able to rediscover his form and fitness, then that would be a huge boost for Ange Postecoglou, as it would be almost like a new signing for him. This Celtic side could definitely do with the winger’s experience heading into the final stretch of the campaign, and with the Premiership title up for grabs.
