One could argue that Celtic’s biggest problem this season has been injuries. At one point or another, several of their key players have been out of action. Even now, the club are missing the likes of Kyogo Furuhashi, David Turnbull and more. Considering the circumstances, Ange Postecoglou’s side deserve a lot of credit for continuing to produce the results, even though performances have taken a hit from time to time, which is understandable.

Of course, the big return that Celtic fans will be hoping for now is that of Kyogo but it looks like that could still be quite some distance away.

But there is one player who has recently returned to training, which will boost the Hoops’ options in the wide areas. That man is none other than Mikey Johnston.

As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Postecoglou told Celtic’s official YouTube channel during a media conference:

"“Mikey Johnston is now back training as well.”"

Johnston was viewed as the next big thing at Celtic not too long ago, after he had made a brilliant start to life at the senior level after coming through the club’s youth ranks.

But it is safe to say that over the course of the past two years or so, he has spent the majority of his time out on the sidelines and it has clearly had a big impact on his development as a player.

Even when Johnston has been on the pitch, he appears to have lost a step or two, and is struggling to make an impact. That was one of his biggest strengths at one point, as he could have an effect on games, through both scoring and assisting.

Even this season has been stop-start for him and one can only hope that he is able to rediscover his best form in the near future. On top of his game, he has the potential to be a big player for Celtic.
