Celtic have made a number of additions to their squad since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as manager. The club made twelve signings in the summer, ten on a permanent basis and two on loan, and five further additions in the January transfer window. On the other hand, several key stars like Odsonne Edouard, Ryan Christie, Kristoffer Ajer and more departed Parkhead as well.

Thus, it is safe to say that this is a very different Celtic side to the one that finished trophyless and 25 points behind the Rangers last season. And fortunately, the results have been different as well.

Celtic have already won the Scottish League Cup, thanks to a brace from Kyogo Furuhashi, arguably the club’s signing of the season, in the final. And they are sitting three points ahead of the Rangers in the Premiership with nine league games left to be played.

The club appear to already have their eyes on the next summer transfer window though and as reported by Football League World, both Celtic and the Rangers are showing an interest in Coventry City’s Gustavo Hamer. Several Premier League clubs are also believed to be keeping tabs on the midfielder.

Celtic linked with surprise move for Hamer

Hamer has been impressive in the Championship this season. But his current deal with Coventry City is set to run out in the summer of 2023. Thus, the club might have to make a decision on his future when the transfer window reopens if they cannot agree a contract extension with the former Netherlands youth international.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Hamer has scored 2 goals and provided 6 assists in 27 Championship appearances this season.

It is surprising to see Celtic being linked with another midfielder though considering the sheer number of options that they have in the middle of the park right now. It must be said that the futures of the likes of Ismaila Soro and James McCarthy appear to be up in the air.
