Rangers director’s incredible claim about Celtic friendly in Australia

Celtic and Rangers are set to take on each other, but in unfamiliar surroundings. The Glasgow giants are set to meet each other thousands of miles away in Sydney, Australia. It goes without saying that the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as the Hoops’ manager in the summer has had a huge impact on the growth of the club’s popularity Down Under as well as that of Scottish football as a whole.

Of course, a lot of eyebrows have been raised about the decision to play the Rangers in a friendly game away in Australia.

But the game does have its benefits as well. It will help grow the global brand of Celtic as a club and the Scottish league further. And it could provide the Hoops with a major cash boost as well.

The comments of an Ibrox director, James Bisgrove, are interesting in this regard to say the least. While speaking on Rangers TV and as reported by 67 Hail Hail, he said:

"“To be frank, it’s of sizeable financial benefit for the club from a commercial perspective. To an extent that we’ve never had an offer of this level.“Participation in this event, over 8 days, will benefit the club to the same level as entire season in the SPFL Premiership, for two friendly games.”"

Thus, it sounds like it might have been an offer that was too good to turn down, especially considering how Scottish clubs have struggled to keep up with teams from other European leagues in recent years.

Ultimately, it is a boost for Celtic as a whole. Now, how friendly a Glasgow Derby can actually be? We will find the answer to that question in Australia, later this year, in November.

It is too early to think about anything regarding this game though, as there is a good part of the 2021/22 campaign still to go. 10 league games and Scottish Cup fixtures to be precise. And everything is still up in the air in both competitions. Celtic have already won the Scottish League Cup and might have another treble in their sights.
