Ryan Christie makes admission about Neil Lennon’s Celtic exit

It is easy to forget how much Celtic has changed since last season. In fact, Callum McGregor, Greg Taylor and Tom Rogic, are the only players from Neil Lennon’s side, that continue to get regular playing time at Parkhead. That should not come as a major surprise though, considering how the Northern Irishman’s last season in charge of the Hoops ended up transpiring, with the club going trophyless and finishing 25 points behind the Rangers in the Premiership.

One player who was in the centre of it all was Ryan Christie. He was an important member of the Celtic first-team picture, but had struggled massively in the 2020/21 campaign.

Of course, as we all know, Lennon would be gone in February of last year. On the other hand, Christie would complete a move to Bournemouth in the summer.

Now, as reported by Football Scotland, Christie has given his take on the managerial situation at the club last season and what kind of an effect it had on players and has admitted that there was a feeling of uncertainty:

"“Around the time when people are calling for change around the club, whether that’s managerial or even higher, it’s hard as a player not to see it.“All it takes is having a close friend thinking you’ve got the inside scoop, but you know as much as they do!“There was definitely a feeling of uncertainty at times going in, and it did end up changing, but there was definitely uncertainty throughout the later half of the season about whether there would be changes.”"

It is safe to say that the situation was far from ideal. Ultimately, Lennon would depart the club in February. But by then, it had become very clear that the Hoops would not be able to even come close to competing with the Rangers for the Premiership title.

There had been calls to replace Lennon in the managerial hot seat from as early as November though, as the season had started to go off the rails for Celtic.

One has to wonder how things would have turned out for the club if the change had been made then. But what is done is done. Right now, the Hoops certainly find themselves in a better position, sitting at the top of the Premiership table with a three point lead over the Rangers.
