Celtic have made some great strides in the right direction this season. This side had finished 25 points behind the Rangers and without a single trophy in the previous campaign. But this time around, they already have the Scottish League Cup in the cabinet and will surely be looking to add more, as they sit three points ahead of Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side in the Premiership table.

Of course, there is still a long way to go this season, 10 more league games and Scottish Cup fixtures to be precise. But overall, the Hoops must be happy with what they have seen so far and are leading the title race as of now.

One player who has been a particular standout for Celtic this season is Cameron Carter-Vickers, who is on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur. The club are expected to try to sign him on a permanent basis in the summer.

But, it looks like the defender had preferred a move to Newcastle United last summer before the switch to Celtic took place. As reported by FootballFanCast, in a recent Q&A on The Athletic, Kieran Devlin said:

"“Newcastle was his preference in August but their interest wasn’t serious enough, so when Spurs called Celtic and offered them him on deadline day they readily accepted – they’d enquired about a loan with option-to-buy earlier that month but Spurs initially rejected it wanting only a permanent move, but by deadline day they just wanted him out the squad.”"

It is safe to say that Carter-Vickers has settled in quite well since arriving at Celtic. In fact, he might be the best defender at the club right now.

The Hoops have an option to buy included in the loan deal and they are expected to try to sign him on a permanent basis in the summer.

It will all come down to the player though and what he wants to do. There have been suggestions recently that a number of Premier League clubs want to sign him. But at the same time, he is playing regular football for Celtic, something that the United States international has never done for a team in the English top division yet.
