Celtic manager’s latest Kyogo Furuhashi injury update

Kyogo Furuhashi has arguably been Celtic’s best player this season. He has certainly produced the biggest moments till now, scoring a brilliant brace in the Scottish League Cup final against Hibernian to bring an end to the Hoops’ trophyless streak from the previous campaign. In that game, he was not 100 per cent fit, having picked up an injury earlier in December in a Europa League game with Real Betis.

And a week after the final, Kyogo would injure himself again, and it has proven to be a serious one. He has not made a single appearance for Celtic since then.

Fortunately for the Hoops, they have continued to get results even in his absence, but there is no doubt about the fact that they look like a better team with a fit and in-form Kyogo in it.

Ange Postecoglou refused to put a timeframe on when Kyogo could be back on the pitch, but it does look like it will take till the next international break at least, for him to recover. As reported by The Scottish Sun, the manager told Sky Sports:

"“Kyogo, just his nature, is working really hard to get back as soon as possible.“Whether that is during the internationals or just after that we will have to wait and see. It won’t be far off.”"

Kyogo has been incredible for Celtic when he has been on the pitch. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 16 goals and provided 5 assists in 26 appearances across all competitions till now.

And it is not just goals that he is bringing to Celtic either. His relentless work-rate also helps set the tone that you would expect from a Postecoglou side, and the Hoops do need him back in the mix of things.

Thus, one can only hope that Kyogo is back on the pitch as soon as possible. But it does look like his return could still be quite some distance away and will take several more weeks at least. The next international break is set to start on March 21.
