Celtic suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Bodo/Glimt away in Norway to crash out of the UEFA Europa Conference League. Coming into the tie, most people would have known that the Norwegian champions were difficult opposition but even then not many would have expected them to get a 5-1 aggregate victory against the Hoops over the two legs.

It is safe to say that the situation is far from ideal for Ange Postecoglou’s side. They must have gained a lot of confidence from their Europa League group stage campaign but this was a real eye opener about how far they still have to go in Europe.

All the focus will now shift towards domestic competitions, which has always been the most important part of the campaign to be honest.

Hopefully, things there will not end in disappointment like the European campaign did for Postecoglou’s side.

Another European campaign ends in disappointment

Celtic have not been the best in Europe in recent times. There have been flashes of brilliance here and there, like the 2019/20 campaign, but then they have been few and far between.

There were some memorable results this season. Like the win over Real Betis and AZ Alkmaar, and they were minutes away from getting an away win in Germany against Bayer Leverkusen as well.

But overall, it was not a great campaign for the Hoops, who surely would have been hoping for a deeper run in the UEFA Europa Conference League. But then, it just goes to show how far this team still has to go, especially in Europe. Room for improvement is always a good thing for the future.
