Martin O’Neill reveals how he feels about Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic run

There were not a lot of expectations around Celtic coming into the campaign. They were coming off of a 2020/21 campaign, when they had finished trophyless and 25 points behind the Rangers in the Premiership title race. On top of that, the club were set to undergo a massive overhaul in the summer, with several of their best players, like Odsonne Edouard, Kristoffer Ajer and Ryan Christie leaving, and several new signings arriving.

Ange Postecoglou was appointed as the new Celtic manager in the summer and it is safe to say that he had his work cut out for him.

Celtic made twelve new additions in the summer, ten on a permanent basis and two on loan. On top of that, they made five more additions to their squad in January as well. Thus, it is safe to say that the majority of the squad is different from last season.

Considering that, Postecoglou has done a tremendous job till now, leading them to a Scottish League Cup triumph and the Hoops are sitting at the top of the Premiership table as well.

Martin O’Neill gives honest take on Postecoglou’s run as Celtic manager

One man who has experience of turning things around at Celtic is Martin O’Neill. And he had some very positive things to say about the job that Postecoglou has done ever since arriving at the club. As reported by RTE, the manager said:

"“Very good indeed, excellent.“From a stodgy start, domestically it’s been really good.“Looking in from a distance, it seemed a big rebuild was required. It was important that some of the good players stayed on, like Callum McGregor, and some of the players he has brought in have done wonderfully well.“Sticking to your beliefs as a manager is important. That’s where Ange gains a great deal of respect for me because he stuck with it and believed in it.“At the start, when results weren’t really there, you start to think maybe he needs to go with a different emphasis or a change of direction, but, no, he stuck to his beliefs and it’s bearing fruit domestically.“It can be very difficult to do that when results are not going so well, so well done to Ange.”"

At this point of time, Celtic must be delighted with the position that they are in, sitting three points above the Rangers in the Premiership table.

And while there is still a long way to go in the title race, and things can change very quickly in football, there is no question about the progress that Celtic have made this season and there are very few managers in the world who could have pulled it off.
