Dundee manager’s classy admission after Celtic match

Not many Celtic fans would have expected their game against Dundee FC to be as tight as it turned out to be. The visitors were sitting at the bottom of the Premiership table while the Hoops had been in tremendous form, at least domestically. Thus, this was viewed by many as a chance for Ange Postecoglou’s side to bounce back from their disappointment of midweek when they lost 3-1 at the hands of Bodo/Glimt.

By the end of the game, Celtic must have been absolutely delighted with having walked out of Parkhead with all three points and a narrow 3-2 win, thanks to a hattrick from Giorgos Giakoumakis.

The performance from Celtic raised a lot of eyebrows though as they were nowhere near their best and for a large part of the game, it looked like the game could end in a draw. There was a nervy moment near the end as well, when a ball appeared to have struck Jota on the hand inside the box.

Thankfully for Celtic, a penalty was not awarded. Although, the fans could argue that the Hoops should have had a couple of penalties of their own in the first-half itself. After the game, while speaking with BBC Scotland and as reported by 67 Hail Hail, Dundee manager, Mark McGhee, said:

"“I’ve seen it a dozen times. There was a handball, but whether it was a penalty or not, I’m not exactly sure technically what the rules are.“I think the claim was it hit someone’s head then came back off his hand.“But it’s of no relevance and it’s of no significance. We don’t care about that. We’re more interested in our own performance than we are about the referees.”"

It is safe to say that this was not a great performance for Celtic by any stretch of the imagination and in many ways, they were lucky to even come out of the game with a win.

But at the same time, if certain decisions had gone their way in the first half, it might very well have turned out to be a much more comfortable victory for them.

Eventually, it is safe to say that things worked themselves out and even though nowhere near their best, it was Celtic who deserved all three points on this occasion.

The result also takes them three points clear off the Rangers in the Premiership table.
