Celtic pulled off a huge win, when they were able to find a late winner once again, this time against Dundee FC. Giorgos Giakoumakis was the club’s hero on the day, scoring a fantastic hattrick. And with the Rangers dropping a couple of points earlier in the day against Dundee United, the win means that the club are now three points clear at the top of the Premiership table. With just 11 games left to be played in the league, that is fantastic for the Hoops to say the least.
There is still a long way to go and one has to remember that coming out of the winter break, the Rangers were six points ahead of Celtic. Now, they trail the club by three points.
That’s how quickly things can change in football. And Postecoglou’s side should be careful, not to let the title race slip away from them.
As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Postecoglou said when asked about whether today was pivotal in the title race by BBC Radio Scotland:
"“No, because we were six points behind not long ago. Things change very quickly.“What’s important is that even during those times we were behind we just focused on what we were doing. That’s what we need to do.“You saw today, we played really well and dominated the game but the result isn’t a given. In football, you’ve got to earn everything you get.“We had to earn it today and I’m sure we’ll have to earn everything else from here on.”"
Celtic still have a mountain to climb to win the Premiership
Celtic will need to be careful of the position that they find themselves in. It was not too long ago that they were the ones trailing the Rangers in the title race.
But then, that is how quickly the Premiership title race can turn around this season and as a result, unless the fate of the title is completely done, one cannot say who will be the one walking away with the trophy come the end of the campaign.
At this point of time, it is safe to say that the Hoops are pretty much in the driver’s seat though and deserve a lot of credit for that as well. It has not been an easy ride for them to get back to the top.
