Celtic have done a great job this season considering the magnitude of the transformation that this squad has undergone over the course of this campaign. Twelve new players, ten on a permanent basis and two on loan, arrived at Parkhead in the summer. And then, five more arrived last month. On the other hand, several stars have departed the club and many youngsters have been sent out on loan as well.

One such player who is out on loan at the moment is Jonathan Afolabi. It has been a few years that he has been with Celtic but has never made his mark on the first-team.

On the other hand, he has spent time out on loan at several clubs but never quite made his mark there either. He spent the first half of this campaign at Ayr United but it did not quite work out for him.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Afolabi scored just once in 16 appearances for Ayr United. As a result, it was not a huge surprise when he was brought back to Parkhead and sent to Airdrieonians on loan instead.

Afolabi has made a brilliant start to his loan spell at Airdrieonians though. He made his first start for the Scottish League One side against Peterhead and scored the winner in a 1-0 victory.

Highly rated during his time in the Southampton youth set up, things have not gone Afolabi’s way since his move to Celtic though as he has struggled to find his feet at the senior level.

But still only 22 years of age, there is plenty of time for Afolabi to improve and develop further. And the Hoops will be hoping that he can do that during his loan spell at Airdrieonians, because he does not have a lot of time left on his current deal at Celtic.
