Celtic get unexpected backing from Rangers legend

Celtic suffered a disappointing defeat at the hands of Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Europa Conference League. The Norwegian champions walked out of Parkhead with a 3-1 win and it is safe to say that the Hoops’ chance of making it to the next round of the competition will be hanging by a thread when they visit Norway next week for the second leg of the tie. While it is not over yet, it will take a gigantic effort from the club to make something out of this situation.

The performance was even more disappointing considering the form that Celtic had been in coming into the game. It was in November of last year, that they had lost the last time. The club had won the Scottish League Cup and climbed up to the top of the Premiership table since then.

As a result, it goes without saying that a number of fans feel that the tie is as good as over, unless something unexpected happens away in Norway.

Celtic have gotten some backing from Rangers legend, Barry Ferguson, though. As reported by the Daily Record, he told The Go Radio Football Show:

"“I think people will stand up and take notice of Bodo/Glimt as a very good football team.“I don’t think Celtic would have been underestimating them and I think Postecoglou would have analysed them, but sometimes you just need to hold your hands up and say you got beat by the better team on the night.“Bodo/Glmit for me throughly deserved their win.“But Celtic are still in it, they got that goal back.“They conceded straight after that, which will annoy Postecoglou, but they should go to Norway in a positive frame of mind.”"

Can Celtic turn it around away in Norway?

Celtic will have a lot to do if they are to turn this tie around in Norway. That trip is going to be very difficult, not just because they will come up against a brilliant Bodo/Glimt side away in Europe but also because of the weather conditions.

It is safe to say that the situation that Celtic find themselves in right now is far from ideal. But that does not mean that they have no chance of making a comeback.

The fact of the matter is that Celtic were nowhere near their best while Bodo/Glimt scored thrice from four shots on target. Thus, if Postecoglou’s side can show their best away in Norway, it is very possible that they can come out with a positive result even if it does not prove to be enough to send them through to the next round.
