Ange Postecoglou’s honest Celtic admission after Bodo/Glimt defeat

Celtic’s first ever UEFA Europa Conference League game did not go the way that they would have hoped. The Hoops were handed a 3-1 defeat at Parkhead by a Bodo/Glimt side that were coming straight out of pre-season. The Norwegian champions scored early in both halves. The Hoops would grab one back through Daizen Maeda but the visitors did not take long to restore their 2-goal lead.

Ultimately, Celtic fans must have been very disappointed with the performance and the result on the night. This was a team that had been in great form coming into the game.

But once again, they continue to stumble in knockout games in Europe. And with a tough away second leg in Norway still to be played, the Hoops’ chances of going through seem very slim.

It was not a good performance from Celtic to say the least and it is safe to say that Ange Postecoglou must have been disappointed with what he say on the pitch tonight. He has not given up on the tie yet though. As reported by The Scotsman, the manager said:

"“We weren’t clinical and they were – they had two chances, one deflection and they score (with them all).“We lacked composure in the front third. Obviously goals change the perspective for everyone – they are able to get their goals and we didn’t.“I thought we were in control in the second half then they got their second goal on the counter. I always know that’s a possibility.“They then got a deflection for the third and things didn’t work but in the overall context they were more clinical than us in important areas.“It’s only half-time, so there’s another game to go and we’ll go and play our football and see what we do.“We’ve just got to go there and play our football again. We’ve scored goals away in tough places so it’s a good challenge for us.”"

It is safe to say that this is one of the most disappointing defeats that Celtic have suffered in the Postecoglou era.

Coming into the game, most fans would have been hoping for a positive result after the form that the club have shown in recent times but they did not even come close to even a draw on the night.

It was just not good enough from the Hoops and one could argue that the manager got it wrong with his selection as well. What is done is done though. The focus must now turn towards the second leg, away in Norway. While Celtic will have a mountain to climb, especially judging from tonight’s performance, stranger things have happened in Europe.
