It is easy to forget that it was just last summer that Ange Postecoglou arrived at Celtic. The turnaround in fortunes that the club have enjoyed since then is remarkable to say the least. The Hoops had finished 25 points behind the Rangers in the Premiership last season and trophyless. This time around, they are sitting at the top of the league with a one point lead and have already lifted the Scottish League Cup.

Thus, it is safe to say that the club are in a much better situation right now than they were when Postecoglou first arrived. And they will be hoping that things are about to get even better.

Postecoglou was relatively unknown in Europe when he first arrived at Celtic in the summer. Australians have been aware of his brilliance for a long time now though.

In fact, South Melbourne FC, the club where Postecoglou came through the youth ranks, played and then managed, have released a goalkeeper jersey inspired by the manager’s journey at Celtic. The club tweeted out:

When Celtic failed to appoint Eddie Howe as their manager in the summer, it is safe to say that there was a lot of disappointment around the club and the fans. And when rumours first emerged about the Hoops trying to bring in Postecoglou instead, not many were convinced he was the man to take the club back to the top of Scottish football.

Postecoglou had enjoyed considerable success in Australia and Japan, but did not have any experience managing at a top level in Europe until then.

It is safe to say that he has already proven himself and looks like an inspired appointment on the part of Celtic. Now, it remains to be seen if he can guide them to the Premiership title.
