Former Celtic player looks set to be handed Aberdeen job

Aberdeen find themselves in a difficult position right now and it looks like a former Celtic player could be set to take charge of the team on an interim basis. There were high hopes from Stephen Glass as manager but things have gone south at the club this season. They currently sit at 9th in the Scottish Premiership and they were knocked out by Motherwell from the Scottish Cup recently as well.

And following the result, Aberdeen have decided to show Glass the exit door. The club confirmed the news on their official website.

With not a lot of football left to be played this season though, it feels unlikely that they will make a long-term appointment at this stage of the campaign.

As reported by the Scottish Daily Express, Barry Robson and Neil Simpson are believed to be taking charge of Aberdeen on an interim basis while the club will also try to get Scott Brown to work in a more coaching-based role moving forward.

Former Celtic player looks set to get Aberdeen role on interim basis

Robson played for Celtic for a couple of years from 2008 to 2010. He has been involved with coaching the Aberdeen youth and reserve sides till now, and looks set to be handed the charge of the first-team, along with Simpson, on an interim basis.

On the other hand, Brown had brought an end to his decade-and-a-half long run at Celtic to join Aberdeen in a player-coach role last summer.

But with Glass now gone, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the former Celtic captain at the Pittodrie Stadium although it looks like the club are interested in holding on to him in a more coaching-based role.

Aberdeen have a tough task on their hands if they are to turn this season around from here.
