Kris Boyd caused quite a controversy recently after his comments about the Rangers players’ not testing Celtic captain Callum McGregor’s face mask in the aftermath of the Glasgow Derby. For those who are not aware of the situation, the Scottish international recently suffered a facial injury while playing against Alloa Athletic last month and has been competing with a protective mask on since then.

It is no surprise that Celtic fans were not happy with Boyd’s comments but not much has transpired regarding the matter since then.

It has looked like though that McGregor has spoken with Boyd about the situation and the two have cleared things up between themselves, which to be honest, matters the most in this scenario.

On the other hand, Sky Sports appear to have given their take on the controversy as well. As reported by The Herald, a spokesperson from Sky said:

"“We are aware of Kris Boyd’s comments made in his column in the Scottish Sun, which he has since clarified and about which he has reached out to Celtic captain Callum McGregor privately.“Even though these comments were not made on Sky Sports, Kris has been reminded about the language and context he uses in articulating and telling a story.“"

It is safe to say that the situation is far from ideal and Celtic fans would have been hoping for more action. But it is what it is and it looks like it is time to move on.

McGregor has continued to perform with a protective mask on since then and considering the circumstances, he has been doing quite well.

The Celtic captain has been a standout in the middle of the park and has earned a lot of plaudits for the bravery that he has shown to get on the pitch even when nowhere near full fitness.

Since taking on the armband in the summer, he has already guided Celtic to silverware in the form of the Scottish League Cup and will surely be hoping to lift more trophies this season. The Hoops currently sit at the top of the Premiership table, leading the Rangers by one point.
