It is not hard to see why there is a lot of anticipation around Christopher Jullien’s return to the pitch for Celtic. The French defender was a regular part of the club’s starting XI a few years back but has struggled with injury problems since then, which have kept him out of action. He has now made his comeback to training although he is yet to feature in Ange Postecoglou’s side and it remains to be seen when that does end up happening.

Jullien did not make a single appearance in the year 2021 after picking up a long-term injury in late 2020. And it has taken him a long time to get back to fitness.

He has featured on the bench a few times recently but is yet to get a run out in the park. The upcoming Scottish Cup game against Raith Rovers could end up being a great opportunity to do that although it remains to be seen how things unfold.

As reported by 67 Hail Hail, while speaking in a press conference on Celtic’s official YouTube channel, Postecoglou said about Jullien’s situation:

"“I get the level of anticipation with Chris because it’s a long-term injury and a significant player for this club and people are really keen.“My assessment of those things is that with every player we look to give them an opportunity when we think the time is right, to give themselves the best chance to play.“Chris has been training really well in terms of consistently being out there without any issues, which is important, that’s the first thing. The second thing is when does he get his opportunity?“Look he’ll be involved in the squad, definitely, on Sunday. Whether he gets any game time that depends on how I think the starting eleven will look or, if he’s not in the starting eleven, what changes I can make during the game.“He’s just got to keep doing what he’s doing. I don’t think anyone here hasn’t got their opportunity, he’ll get his opportunity and then it’ll be up to him.”"

Postecoglou gives latest update on Jullien’s Celtic return

It is safe to say that it will be a huge boost for Celtic if Jullien is able to return to the pitch and rediscover his best form. On top of his game, he is arguably the best defender that the club have.

Unfortunately though, it is very difficult for that to happen as he has not played regular football in a long time and as a result, the Frenchman would be expected to take a while before if he gets his rhythm back and it is very possible that he might never get back to his best again.

Judging from Postecoglou’s comments, it feels like Jullien will be on the bench against Raith Rovers, and whether he comes on or not will depend on how comfortable Celtic are in the match.
