Celtic are less than two weeks away from the first leg of their UEFA Europa Conference League tie against Bodo/Glimt. And it is safe to say that after how things have been going for them recently, the Hoops should be confident of their chances against the Norwegian champions, who are a brilliant team in their own right, as proven by their 6-1 win over Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma earlier in the season.

Celtic added some much needed depth to their squad in the January transfer window and the new signings have appeared to give the Hoops the boost that they required to challenge for the Premiership title in the second half of the campaign.

As expected Celtic have made three changes to their European squad as well. Daizen Maeda, Matt O’Riley and Reo Hatate have been added, as posted on the UEFA website.

Unfortunately, Yosuke Ideguchi has missed out, with only three changes allowed at this stage. And his exclusion makes sense, as he is struggling with an injury problem right now and has not played a lot of football since arriving at Celtic. Interestingly, Ismaila Soro has been left out as well.

Ideguchi has not enjoyed a great start to life at Celtic. After struggling at Leeds United in his earlier stint in Europe, he must have been hoping to come out of the blocks quickly but that has not been the case.

Ideguchi suffered an injury in the Scottish Cup game against Alloa Athletic last month and has been out since. He will not be helped by the fact that both Hatate and O’Riley have been superb, increasing the competition for places in the middle of the park.

On the other hand, Soro has slipped down the pecking order under the management of Postecoglou and it feels like he could be on his way out of Celtic in the not too distant future.
