Jota has been an absolute standout for Celtic ever since arriving on a season-long loan in the summer from Benfica. The Portuguese winger had been brilliant while coming through the youth ranks and had even been linked with Real Madrid at one point. It had not been smooth sailing for him at the senior level though until his move to Parkhead, where Ange Postecoglou appears to be getting the best out of him.

He had failed to nail down a spot in the Benfica first-team and struggled on loan at Real Valladolid as well, but Jota looks like a completely different player in a Celtic shirt.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 8 goals and provided 8 assists in 23 appearances for Celtic till now.

Celtic are believed to have an option to buy included in the loan deal and it should not come as a surprise that there have been calls from the fans for Jota to be signed on a permanent basis. And there appears to be a massive update surrounding that situation.

Some rumours have suggested that the winger could end up returning to Portugal in the summer. But as tweeted out by Ekrem Konur, Celtic are in final talks with Benfica over the permanent transfer of Jota and the Hoops are confident that they will keep him at the club.

It goes without saying that this is potentially a massive boost for the Hoops. There is no question about the fact that Jota has been one of their best players this season till now.

Also, he is still just 22 years of age and playing his first season of Scottish football. Thus, one would expect him to get even better moving forward. Now, it remains to be seen if Celtic can get a deal over the line.
