Celtic pulled off two incredible loan deals in the summer by bringing in Jota from Benfica and Cameron Carter-Vickers from Tottenham Hotspur till the end of the season. Both have done spectacularly for the Hoops till now and it is believed that they want to sign the duo on a permanent basis, and also have an option to buy included in both the loan deals. Ultimately though, it might very well come down to the players and what they want to do.
It is believed that Celtic are ready to meet the option to buy transfer figures but neither Jota nor Carter-Vickers have been signed yet. And it is safe to say that as we head closer towards the end of the season, fans will become more anxious about the situation.
Both Jota and Carter-Vickers have been huge parts of Celtic’s first-team this season and if the club are unable to sign them on a permanent basis, it would be a major blow for them.
Amidst all this, Ange Postecoglou has appeared to provide an update on the situation surrounding the two loan players. As reported by The Scotsman, he said:
"“If I say we’re closer, it’s as if something’s happened. Those discussions will be taking place over the course of the next period.“Michael [Nicholson, chief executive] is at the forefront of that with the players themselves. It will take care of itself.”"
The focus has to be on the present as well though with Celtic in the middle of a title race and Postecoglou added:
"“I know Cam and Jota love representing this football club and what it’s all about. They’re contributing right now and that’s all I need to see.”"
Will Jota and Carter-Vickers end up staying at Celtic?
It is safe to say that a number of factors will be expected to play a part in the duo’s decision surrounding their Celtic future.
Both are important players for the club but one has to be realistic about the situation, and it is very possible that they might not be at Parkhead next season.
If Celtic can win the Premiership, they will be in next season’s Champions League and that could considerably increase their chances of landing Jota and Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis.
