Celtic have had their fair share of injury problems throughout the season and they were handed a major one recently as club captain, Callum McGregor, suffered a facial injury in the Scottish Cup game against Alloa Athletic. Rumours emerged that the midfielder would need to undergo surgery and would be out of action for more than a month. Fortunately for the Hoops, that has not turned out to be the case.

In fact, McGregor returned to the pitch for Celtic just two games later, starting against the Rangers in the Glasgow Derby while playing with a protective mask on.

Not only did McGregor play on the big day but he put in an impressive performance. And the fans will be hoping that he can continue to perform like this, while his injury heals as quickly as possible.

McGregor provided a positive update on his injury situation recently though in what would come as a massive boost for The Hoops. As reported by the Daily Record, the club captain told Celtic TV:

"“It’s fine and I’m feeling good.“It seems to have been strong enough to get through the game and I’ve been recovering well, so there are no issues so far.”"

McGregor has handed Celtic a massive injury boost

It is safe to say that this will come as a massive injury boost for Celtic. McGregor has been one of the club’s most consistent players for a long time now and any long-term absence would be a huge blow for them.

On top of that, he is the Hoops’ club captain as well and thus, it goes without saying that the fans want him back in action as soon as possible.

For now though, it does feel like it will take some time for him to heal fully but he seems fit enough to play games of football with a protective mask on, as he showed against the Rangers. Hopefully, he will continue to do that moving forward as often as he can, because Celtic certainly do need McGregor if they are to win the Premiership title this season.
