The turnaround that Celtic have made this season is simply incredible. The club had finished 25 points behind the Rangers in the Premiership in the previous campaign while also not winning a single piece of silverware. This time around, they have already lifted the Scottish League Cup and after defeating the Rangers 3-0 in the recent Glasgow Derby, the Hoops are back at the top of the league table as well.
Ange Postecoglou deserves tremendous credit for this. But at the same time, so do a number of the club’s new signings, both from the summer and this January, who have come in and made an immediate impact at Celtic.
The transfer activity has been brilliant on the part of the club and hopefully it will continue like this moving forward as well.
Zinedine Ferhat is someone the club were heavily linked with recently but a move did not transpire. But as reported by Foot Mercato (via The Scotsman), it is believed that Postecoglou wants to bring the Algerian international to Celtic and a contract for next season has been offered. Trabzonspor also appear to have a serious interest in the 28-year-old though.
Can Celtic sign Ferhat on a free transfer next summer?
Ferhat currently plays for Ligue 2 side, Nimes, and his current deal with them is set to run out next summer. And after unexpectedly struggling for playing time this season, he looks almost certain to leave the club as a free agent.
While the winger might be playing in Ligue 2, he has already proven himself in the top flight of French football in the past. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Ferhat scored 6 goals and provided 10 assists in 33 Ligue 1 appearances last season.
Thus, on top of his game, Ferhat is a serious player and he would be a great addition for Celtic, especially as a free agent. Now, it remains to be seen if they can get a deal done.
