Kris Boyd responds after Celtic release statement about his comments

Callum McGregor showed a huge sign of courage by playing for Celtic in the recent Glasgow Derby against the Rangers with a protective mask on, following his recent facial injury against Alloa Athletic. The club captain had ended up missing the last couple of games and there were fears that he would end up being absent in the big game in mid week as well but that did not turn out to be the case.

Ultimately, it was a great night of football for Celtic, who got a 3-0 win against the Rangers to go top of the Premiership table after a long, long time and it is safe to say that the title race is well and truly on.

On the other hand, McGregor put in a good performance himself despite clearly being nowhere near 100 per cent at the moment and earned a lot of plaudits for his bravery to even step on to the pitch on the day and rightfully so.

Some of Kris Boyd’s comments regarding the Rangers not ‘testing out’ his face mask has raised quite a bit of controversy though. Celtic released a statement regarding the matter as they tweeted out:

Boyd has responded as Celtic released a statement regarding the matter. He wrote in The Scottish Sun:

"I wrote: “The fact he managed to get through the 90 minutes without anyone testing out that face mask is another story, but his commitment to the team was tremendous.”Some have taken that line to mean I wanted one of the Rangers players to intentionally try and hurt the midfielder.However, that is absolutely and unequivocally NOT the case.It was simply meant as a criticism of the Rangers players for their failure to get close to McGregor."

It remains to be seen how things turn out in this matter over the coming days. But for Celtic, the most important thing right now will be that they are back at the top of the Premiership once again and have a one point lead over the Rangers.

Not many would have expected that when the Hoops had lost three of their first six league games this season.

Now though, the focus must be on continuing with this run of form and dropping as few points as possible moving forward. And one has to feel that is what McGregor will be more concerned about right now, instead of what Boyd wrote in his column.
