Callum McGregor confirms massive Celtic injury fears

In an act of incredible courage, Callum McGregor took to the pitch for Celtic against the Rangers with a protective mask on despite it being very clear that he is nowhere near being 100 per cent right now after having suffered a facial injury against Alloa Athletic in the Scottish Cup. The club captain had missed the past couple of games and there were worries that he would miss the Glasgow Derby as well.

That did not happen though as McGregor was back to lead from the front as Celtic sealed a 3-0 win at Parkhead over the Rangers to go top of the Premiership table once again after a long, long time.

We might be only in February and there is still a lot of football left to be played in the league season but even then, this will come as a massive confidence boost for Celtic, who had finished 25 points behind the Rangers last season and were written off by many pundits and fans alike before the campaign had even begun. It is safe to say that the title race is well and truly on.

On the other hand, McGregor has confirmed that there are a couple of breaks in terms of his facial injury. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, and as tweeted out by Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, he said:

"“There’s a break in two places. Just need to let it heal, let that take its course. The mask gives me the protection that I need. As long as it’s not sore, then I’m happy to play.”"

It remains to be seen how long it takes McGregor to recover. There had been fears that he would need to undergo surgery but that does not look like the case anymore.

It seems pretty clear though that he will have to continue playing with a protective mask on for the foreseeable future.

While far from ideal, it did not seem to have a major effect on his performance, as the captain was solid against the Rangers and played a big part in Celtic’s Glasgow Derby victory.
