Celtic have focussed on sending out their youngsters on loan in the ongoing January transfer window, so that they can get some playing time and develop their games. As a result, we have already seen Liam Shaw join Motherwell, Osaze Urhoghide move to KV Oostende and Conor Hazard join HJK Helsinki, all on temporary basis. Ewan Henderson has joined Hibernian on loan as well but that move is set to be made permanent in the summer.

Another player who has been linked with a Celtic exit on loan for a long time is Adam Montgomery. Now, it looks set to happen but not to the club where he was appeared to be headed at first.

Rumours all winter had suggested that Montgomery was set to join Kilmarnock on a temporary basis, as they look to get promoted back to the Scottish Premiership. Now though, it looks like that move is off the table.

As reported by the Daily Record, Montgomery is set to join Aberdeen on loan and The Dons are closing in on a move for the teenager for the rest of the season.

Montgomery had put in some tremendous performances for Celtic early on in this season and it had looked like he was set to establish himself as a regular in Ange Postecoglou’s team.

Unfortunately, his early season form faded away and Montgomery has struggled a bit in recent appearances. As a result, he could be helped by a loan spell to a club where he will get some regular football and the chance to develop further.

Is Aberdeen that club? It remains to be seen. They currently sit at 6th in the Premiership table though and need a boost. Let’s see if the Celtic youngster ends up there this month.
