After bringing in five players in the form of Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate, Yosuke Ideguchi, Johnny Kenny and Matt O’Riley, it feels unlikely that Celtic will make more additions to their squad in the January transfer window. It could be a different story though when it comes to outgoings, as there are still quite a few players at Parkhead who could be benefited by moves away from the club.

One of those players is Albian Ajeti. He arrived in the summer of 2020 from West Ham United for a transfer fee believed to be in the range of £4.5 million and £5 million and early on, it had looked like a brilliant move on the part of Celtic.

Ajeti made a blistering start to life at Celtic but would go on to suffer an injury. Since then, he has never managed to rediscover that early form that he showed in the Hoops.

As a result, he has been linked with a move away from the club in recent times and rumours have emerged recently that FC Basel could be interested in Ajeti. And there appears to be an interesting development in the situation.

It looks like FC Basel striker, Arthur Cabral, is set to move to Fiorentina. Fabrizio Romano tweeted out:

Ajeti played the best football of his career at FC Basel and it is not hard to see why the club might potentially be interested in the Swiss striker’s return. It remains to be seen how things turn out over the coming days.

At this point of time, Ajeti leaving Celtic would be the right step for both the club and the player. With the likes of Maeda and Kyogo Furuhashi in the squad, and Giorgos Giakoumakis also showing signs of improvement, it is hard to see the striker get a lot of playing time at Parkhead moving forward.
