Celtic are leading the race to sign another Irish striker

Celtic have made significant additions to their ranks in the January transfer window. Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate, Yosuke Ideguchi and Matt O’Riley are expected to make a mark in Ange Postecoglou’s first-team picture immediately. On the other hand, Johnny Kenny, who was brought in from Sligo Rovers, is much more of a project signing and the teenager is expected to be given time to develop and improve.

Kenny has already impressed at the senior level during his time with Sligo Rovers and was also wanted by Hibernian before Celtic were able to complete a move for him.

He is not the only Irish striker that the club might end up signing this month though. As reported by The 42, Celtic are understood to be the leading contender to sign Michael Harris from Derry City.

Harris may be the next League of Ireland talent to head towards Parkhead having impressed on trial. The young Irish striker has also been linked with English Championship side, Stoke City.

Celtic could be set to sign another Irish striker

Celtic have signed quite a few players from the League of Ireland in recent times. They brought in Liam Scales from Shamrock Rovers in the summer transfer window before adding Kenny to their ranks this month from Sligo Rovers.

Could Harris prove to be the next League of Ireland player to end up at Celtic? It remains to be seen how things turn out over the coming days as we quickly head towards the end of the January transfer window.

One has to admit though that even if Celtic ended up signing Harris, similar to Kenny, he would not be a player expected to make an immediate impact in the first-team. Instead, he will probably spend time on loan or with the B-team before potentially getting a chance to prove himself for the Hoops’ senior side.
