Liam Shaw makes honest admission about Celtic move

Liam Shaw joined Celtic in the summer after spending around a decade at Sheffield Wednesday. He has not gotten a lot of playing time since joining the Hoops though, with the competition for places high in both midfield and in defence. As a result, he has joined Motherwell on loan this month and will be hoping to make his mark in Scottish football there before returning to Parkhead at the end of the season.

Shaw has already made an appearance for Motherwell, coming off the bench late in the second half in their game against Hibernian. He will surely be hoping to get a lot more moving forward though.

Shaw had to wait until December to make his debut for Celtic, as he featured in their final Europa League group stage game of the season, against Real Betis.

Now, he has opened up about leaving Sheffield Wednesday in the summer, a club where he had come through the youth ranks. As reported by the Daily Record, Shaw said:

"“I am a Sheffield lad. It’s been a big move for me but I have been really enjoying it so far. Motherwell is a big club and I want to get in as many games as I can here.“That will go on to help develop me and hopefully I can help the club while I’m here too. It was tough to leave Sheffield and move all the way up here. Sheffield is all I’ve known so it was hard.“But I thought the move was the best decision for my career. I was at Sheffield Wednesday from the age of about eight or nine years of age.“It’s pretty much half my life. So it was pretty weird walking out the door there for the final time.”"

Still just 20 years of age, Shaw has plenty of time on his hands to develop and improve. Thus, the spell at Motherwell might do him the world of good if he can play some regular football there.

There is undeniable potential in the midfielder who had already made quite a few appearances in the English Championship before joining Celtic but has not found the going as smooth in Scottish football till now.

With the incredible amount of competition in the Celtic midfield, especially after the January additions of Reo Hatate, Yosuke Ideguchi and Matt O’Riley, it is not hard to see why the club decided to send Shaw out on loan. The club will surely have a keen eye on how he does there though.
