With Celtic signing five players this month – Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate, Yosuke Ideguchi, Johnny Kenny and Matt O’Riley – the club must have been hoping that they had put their injury problems behind them. But it is pretty clear that that is not the case at the moment with the Hoops missing several key players right now. And as a result, that makes the update regarding their January transfer plans even more interesting.

Celtic have had some terrible luck when it comes to injuries in recent times and that continued in their rough Scottish Cup fourth round tie against Alloa Athletic.

Three Celtic players – Callum McGregor, Ideguchi and Liel Abada – were forced off the pitch on the day. On the other hand, Kyogo and David Turnbull are already on the sidelines, while Maeda and Tom Rogic are heading out on international duty.

The situation is far from ideal for the Hoops. Amidst all this, Ange Postecoglou has admitted that there could be more movement around Parkhead before the January transfer window slams shut. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, the manager told Celtic TV:

"“We will stay alert and agile, there still could be some things that happen.“We’re still looking at loans for a couple of our younger players. I’m sure there’ll still be some activity between now and the end – what sort of activity that is, we’ll just see how it all develops.“From our perspective, our planning has gone to schedule so far and hopefully that continues until the end of the window.”"

It looks like the club’s focus right now is on sending out young players on loan. They have already done that with Liam Shaw, joining Motherwell, and Conor Hazard, joining HJK Helsinki. Ewan Henderson has also joined Hibernian on loan although that move is expected to be made permanent in the summer.

The likes of Mikey Johnston and Osaze Urhoghide have been linked with loan moves away from Parkhead recently as well.

But Postecoglou has interestingly not ruled out the possibility of Celtic signing more players either, which is an exciting thought for sure. And one has to wonder whether all the recent injuries have had an effect on the club’s plans.
