Celtic find themselves in a sticky situation once again. Kyogo Furuhashi reinjured himself in the game against St Johnstone on Boxing Day and rumours are that he could be out for a while. On the other hand, Albian Ajeti was injured back in December as well and has not made a return to action either. Finally, Daizen Maeda has been called up by the Japan national team for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers. As a result, Giorgos Giakoumakis is the only available striker right now.

Unfortunately for Celtic, the Greek striker has struggled with both form and fitness ever since arriving at Parkhead in the summer.

He did manage to score against Alloa Athletic, but overall, he was not very impressive. And with some huge games coming up, Celtic will need him to be at the top of his game moving forward.

Ange Postecoglou has even admitted that Giakoumakis needs to improve although he has backed the striker to do that as well. As reported by the Daily Record, the Celtic manager said:

"“It was good for him to get a goal. He hasn’t played much so it was good for him to get 90 minutes.“He has to improve on that but like all strikers it’s good for him to get a goal and he took it well.“We need him to improve and he will.”"

Celtic will need Giakoumakis to improve with huge games coming up

Celtic have some big games coming up. The next one is expected to very difficult as it is an away trip against an in-form Hearts. Then the Hoops will welcome Dundee United before facing the Rangers in one of the most important games of the season at Parkhead, which could have huge implications on the title race.

With no other striker seemingly available at the moment, Celtic might have to rely on Giakoumakis to lead the line for the Hoops.

Hopefully, the Greek international will remain fit moving forward. Otherwise, the Hoops might have to go back to playing Liel Abada up front once again.

Giakoumakis was the top scorer in the Eredivisie last season and the fans will be hoping that he can rediscover his best form at Celtic as well.
