Celtic left it tighter than one would have expected as they got a 2-1 win over Alloa Athletic to progress to the next round of the Scottish Cup. And unfortunately for the Hoops, a number of their players had to come off due to injury scares, in a situation that was far from ideal for Ange Postecoglou’s side and it remains to be seen how things unfold over the coming days.

Celtic will be hoping to have as many of their top players available as they can have moving forward, with Tom Rogic and Daizen Maeda going away on international duty soon. On the other hand, Kyogo Furuhashi and David Turnbull are out injured.

Thus, Giorgos Giakoumakis’ goal against Alloa Athletic was a big positive for the Hoops but at the same time, the Greek striker raised a few eyebrows as well.

Overall, it was not the greatest performance from the Hoops but at least they managed to go through to the next round.

Giakoumakis fails to impress

Giakoumakis might have got himself on the scoresheet against Alloa Athletic but that is something that you would expect on most occasions from a Celtic striker starting against League One opposition.

The Greek striker could have scored more goals if he had been more clinical and must be disappointed with just the one.

Over the coming weeks, Giakoumakis is expected to be Celtic’s starter up front with Maeda leaving to join the Japan national team for their World Cup qualifiers and Kyogo looking set to be out for a while due to an injury. Thus, one can only hope that the Greek striker improves moving forward.
