When Celtic missed out on the signing of Riley McGree, it was a clear blow for the Hoops. He was a player that Ange Postecoglou had known from his time as the Australian national team manager, even giving him an international call up when he was a teenager. And now, after he had proven his quality on loan at Birmingham City, it had looked like Parkhead was going to be his next destination.

It was not to be though. Middlesbrough are believed to have swooped in with a bigger offer late on and that is where McGree has ended up.

Targeting another midfielder had raised a few eyebrows amongst the fans though, considering the fact that Celtic had already signed Reo Hatate, who was magnificent in his debut, and Yosuke Ideguchi this month.

Thus, the question was, did Postecoglou want to bring in McGree in particular or did they want another option in the middle of the park? It looks like we have gotten our answer now.

Player undergoing medical at Celtic before Parkhead move

As reported by Sky Sports, Matt O’Riley is undergoing a medical at Celtic ahead of a move from MK Dons. The transfer fee is believed to be in the region of £1.5 million.

O’Riley has been very impressive for the League One side and has shown quite a bit of potential. Thus, it is not hard to see why Celtic might be interested in bringing him to Parkhead. Now though, it looks like a move is not far away.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, O’Riley has scored 7 goals and provided 6 assists in 30 appearances for MK Dons this season till now across all competitions.

There had been suggestions earlier that the club would not make another signing this month if an incredible opportunity did not crop up. Could this be one of them?
