After failing to bring Riley McGree to Parkhead, it had looked like Celtic’s January transfer plans for incomings might have come to an end. But now it does not appear to be the case as rumours have emerged that they are closing in on a move for MK Dons’ Matt O’Riley. The 21-year-old midfielder has been extremely impressive for the League One side and appears to be set for a £1.5 million move to Parkhead.

Now, it is safe to say that most Celtic fans would not have been aware of O’Riley before the news of a potential move broke out, but since then, there has been a lot of positive assessments coming out regarding the youngster.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, O’Riley has scored 7 goals and provided 6 assists in 30 appearances for MK Dons this season.

Sam Rourke tweeted out recently:

And some MK Dons fans have reacted to it as well:

Celtic appear to be close to pulling off another transfer masterstroke in the form of O’Riley

While O’Riley is still just 21 years of age, he has already been very impressive for MK Dons, even captaining the League One side multiple times in the past.

Of course, many will question whether he can make the adjustment to Celtic, coming from League One. But then, similar questions must have cropped up when the club were being linked with Ivan Toney as well and he went on to break records in the Championship.

One thing that one has to remember as well is that till now, Ange Postecoglou has shown a tremendous eye for talent and most of the signings that Celtic have pulled off since his appointment have been solid to great.

Thus, it is very possible that O’Riley can prove to be another transfer masterstroke. Only time shall tell but first, let’s see if Celtic can get a deal over the line this time around.
