The upcoming Glasgow Derby between Celtic and the Rangers was originally scheduled to be played on January 2. But as a result of the winter break being brought forward due to crowd restrictions, the game had to be postponed a month and is now scheduled to be played at Parkhead on February 2. There is a possibility though that it could end up being postponed further.

At that point of time, some important international games are already scheduled to be played and important players from both Celtic and the Rangers could end up being unavailable for the Glasgow Derby.

When it comes to Celtic; Kyogo, Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi for Japan, Tom Rogic for Australia and Cameron Carter-Vickers for United States; are the ones who could potentially end up being called up for international duty.

On the other hand, there are some players for the Rangers as well, who could end up being unavailable. And if a club has three or more players missing in a game due to international duty, they have the option to request a postponement. That does not appear to be in Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s plans though.

As reported by The Herald, the Rangers manager said about the situation:

"“As far as I’m concerned, we’re not thinking about postponing the fixture.“We know the international calendar is coming up, we might lose some players as well. But that’s the way it is, we have to take it as it comes.“In the window, it’s not just one game, there are three games that have to be played in the window.”"

It remains to be seen how things turn out over the coming weeks and months. There have been suggestions that Celtic are not giving a lot of thought to the matter at this moment as well although the possibility of requesting a postponement has not been ruled out and will be decided depending on the situation.

There will be a lot riding on the result of the upcoming Glasgow Derby though in terms of the Premiership title race and as a result, if Celtic do have a lot of key players missing, they must consider requesting a postponement.
