Jota has established himself as a key player for Celtic ever since arriving on loan from Benfica in the summer. When the move was first made, a lot of eyebrows were raised about it. Ryan Christie had departed Parkhead and many were unsure whether the Portuguese winger could replace the impact of the Scottish international in the team. Till now, one could argue that he has been even better.

Jota has exceeded all expectations. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 8 goals and provided 7 assists in 18 appearances for Celtic this season.

Thus, one has to wonder why it did not work out for him at Benfica or at Real Valladolid on loan, but Celtic should not be worried one bit. And now, it looks like they are planning on trying to make the deal permanent, with the club having an option to buy included in the loan deal.

As tweeted out by Ekrem Konur, Celtic are ready to shell out a £6 million transfer fee to make Jota’s loan move permanent and negotiations are underway with Benfica.

Celtic are ready to make big move for Jota

Celtic must do all that they can to keep Jota at the club beyond his loan deal and sign him on a permanent basis. It is unlikely that the club will be able to find another player of his quality in the summer for that kind of a transfer fee.

Yes, it would immediately make Jota one of the most expensive signings in the history of the club but he has already shown that he is worth it.

Now, it remains to be seen if Celtic are able to get a deal over the line for the Portuguese winger. If they are, then it would be considered a major coup for the Hoops. It might all come down to Jota and what he wants to do ultimately.
