Celtic have strengthened their squad significantly this month by bringing in four new signings in the form of Daizen Maeda, Yosuke Ideguchi, Reo Hatate and Johnny Kenny. This is a massive boost for Ange Postecoglou and should go a long away in adding to the Hoops’ squad depth, which has been their major worry this season. But even then, there are a few areas that they could do with more options in.

One of them is their wings. James Forrest and Mikey Johnston have both suffered a number of injuries over the past couple of seasons and have struggled to remain fit for any consistent length of time. On the other hand, questions have been raised about Liel Abada’s form in recent times as well.

Thus, Celtic could definitely do with another winger at this point of time and one interesting name that they have been linked with recently is that of Zinedine Ferhat.

But it looks like Celtic have been handed a blow in the race for the Algerian international. As reported by Foot Mercato, Trabzonspor have made him a priority signing and are on a mission to win the race for his signature.

Celtic’s massive blow in transfer race for Ferhat

Ferhat currently plays for Ligue 2 side, Nimes, and has struggled for regular playing time this season. But he has already shown his quality in the past.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 6 goals and provided 10 assists in 33 Ligue 1 appearances last season. And at 28 years of age, he is in his prime as a footballer right now.

Thus, it is not hard to see why there is so much interest in the Algerian international. Not only are Celtic and Trabzonspor believed to be interested in Ferhat, but Montpellier and Lille are believed to be keeping an eye on him as well.
