Celtic and Liverpool in transfer battle for centre-back
Defence has been an area of weakness for Celtic for a while now and they could definitely do with another centre-back in the near future. But it looks like they might be facing competition from Liverpool, as well as several other clubs from Scotland and also from down South, for the highly-rated centre-back, whose current deal is set to run out in the summer.
Celtic would definitely be helped by more options at the back. Cameron Carter-Vickers is the only one who has shown consistency in the heart of Ange Postecoglou’s defence this season. And he is only on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur at the moment.
On the other hand, there have been times when Carl Starfelt has looked brilliant. But there have also been spells when he has completely struggled. And while Stephen Welsh is a good option to have, he is not quite ready to be a regular starter yet.
Hamilton Academical’s Jamie Hamilton appears to be attracting a lot of interest right now. As reported by TEAMtalk, Celtic, Hibernian and Aberdeen are all keen on the defender while down South, there is strong interest from Liverpool, with clubs like Newcastle United, Burnley, Brighton & Hove Albion, Brentford also in the running along with several Championship clubs.
Celtic in transfer battle with Liverpool for Hamilton
It is safe to say that despite being just 19 years of age, Hamilton has already made quite an impression at the senior level which is evident from the clubs who are interested in signing him.
His current deal will run out at the end of the season, meaning that he would be available as a free agent in the summer unless he ends up extending his contract, which does feel unlikely.
Let’s see what the future holds for the young Scottish defender but it certainly does seem bright.
