Celtic have made a blistering start to their January transfer window, already completing deals for Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate, Yosuke Ideguchi and Johnny Kenny. On top of that, they appear to be closing in on a move for Australian international, Riley McGree, who recently impressed on loan at Birmingham City. And the club might not stop there either, as rumours have suggested that they are planning to make more signings this month.

One area that the Hoops could do with more options in is on the wings. James Forrest and Mikey Johnston have had a series of injury problems over the past few years and struggled to remain fit for a considerable length of time before picking up another problem.

On the other hand, Jota has been out of action since picking up an injury in early December and Karamoko Dembele has been out since pre-season. Thus, Celtic might need to make an addition there.

Albert Gudmundsson is a player that they have been linked with in recent times and Celtic’s hopes of signing the Iceland international have been handed a potential boost.

Celtic handed massive Gudmundsson transfer boost

As reported by Noordhollands Dagblad (via 67 Hail Hail), Gudmundsson has told AZ Alkmaar that he wants to move abroad.

Gudmundsson’s current deal with the Dutch side is believed to be running out in the summer of 2022. Thus, he is just a few months away from becoming a free agent.

Celtic will know first hand about his qualities, having come up against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League play-off round this season, where Gudmundsson was lively and impressed.

Celtic could very well try to sign a pre-contract agreement with Gudmundsson, with him being in the final six months of his current deal.

The 24-year-old already has plenty of experience at both domestic and international level. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Gudmundsson has made 99 appearances for AZ Alkmaar and 29 appearances for the Iceland national team.
