Celtic’s start to the January transfer window has taken even the club’s fans by surprise. They moved swiftly to complete deals for Daizen Maeda, Yosuke Ideguchi and Reo Hatate. Then they brought in Sligo Rovers’ 18-year-old striker, Johnny Kenny, who has already impressed at the senior level and could be one to watch out for in the future. And rumours have emerged that the club have agreed a deal for Australian international, Riley McGree.

Celtic are not showing any signs of stopping yet though as it is clear that they want to challenge for the Scottish Premiership title this season itself, as they sit six points behind the Rangers in the table right now.

Another interesting name that has emerged in the Celtic rumour mill recently is that of Iranian international star, Mehdi Ghayedi, who currently plays for UAE Pro League side, Shabab Al Ahli.

As tweeted out by journalist Hatam Shiralizadeh, Celtic have already made a transfer bid for Ghayedi which was turned down but the Hoops are determined to sign the 23-year-old and are planning to return with a second offer.

Celtic are planning to make second transfer bid for Ghayedi

Still just 23 years of age, Ghayedi has impressed a lot and has already represented the Iran national team. He can play as a forward as well as a winger.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Ghayedi has scored 41 goals and provided 31 assists in 155 overall career appearances.

Celtic could certainly do with another option who can play up top or on the wings, and Ghayedi pretty much looks like an Ange Postecoglou style of signing.

It remains to be seen whether Celtic can sign him or not, but it must be said that they must be commended for backing Postecoglou and it is safe to say that the title race could get interesting in the second half of the season.
