Defensive errors

Defence has arguably been Celtic’s biggest weakness over the past couple of seasons. It must be said though that they have appeared to improve since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as manager and look better than they did in the previous campaign.

Of course, there have been games when they have conceded more than they would have expected or hoped. The 4-0 defeat at the hands of Bayer Leverkusen and the 4-3 defeat away against Real Betis come to mind immediately.

But overall, they have showed signs of improvement at the back. Yet, they are still very capable of huge defensive errors from time to time.

That is something that they need to do as little as possible, especially if they are to win the big games, which ultimately end up deciding titles.

Maybe the club could do with some strengthening in defence in January as well. Centre-back and left-back are two positions that Postecoglou could do with more options in.

Avoiding injuries

Perhaps Celtic’s biggest problem this season has been their injuries. One player after the other has gone down recently, leaving Postecoglou scrambling for options to even put out a strong team on the pitch at times.

Of course, this was a direct result of the club not having a lot of squad depth in the first half of the campaign. It meant that there were several players who had to play a lot of football and did not get enough rest.

Hopefully, the picture will be very different in the second half of the season. The early signs are positive.

The club have already signed Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi in January, and will hopefully bring in a few more players before the winter transfer window slams shut. This is expected to help tremendously with their squad depth and consequently reduce injuries.
