Defence has been a worry for Celtic for a long time and that has remained the case under the management of Ange Postecoglou as well.

The one position that they are actually pretty strong in right now is right-back. Anthony Ralston has been great for them this season and become a regular in the starting XI. On the other hand, Josip Juranovic is a Croatian international and is a very good player as well although he has shown tremendous versatility and played in the other full-back position as well as on the wings.

Left-back has remained a problem for the club for a long time. And it will be brilliant if they can find a long-term solution there as soon as possible.

On the other hand, central defence has been a worry as well. Carl Starfelt’s recent form has raised quite a few concerns. Cameron Carter-Vickers is solid but he is only on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur at this point of time. And Stephen Welsh just is not ready to be a starter yet.

And then there is the case of Christopher Jullien, who did not make a single appearance in 2021 due to a long-term injury and it remains to be seen if he can rediscover his best form when he returns.

Sign another winger

Celtic appear to be a bit light on options on the wings as well, with Jota, Mikey Johnston, James Forrest and Karamoko Dembele all struggling with injury problems recently.

More worryingly, Forrest and Johnston have suffered a number of injuries over the past couple of years. Thus, the club could certainly do with another option on the flanks.

It remains to be seen if they can bring in another winger in the January transfer window and promisingly, rumours have suggested that they have not ruled the possibility out.
