Premiership star linked with surprise Celtic transfer
Celtic have already added to their squad, by bringing in Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi. Following the success of Kyogo Furuhashi since arriving in the summer, it is safe to say that the fans will be excited by the three new arrivals from the J1 League and these moves could go a long way in helping Ange Postecoglou’s side in the title race. But even then, they might need more reinforcements.
Celtic had needed a major squad rebuild in the summer and they brought in twelve new players overall, ten on a permanent basis and two on loan. But even that was not enough, as it was pretty clear in the first half of the season that the Hoops did not have the squad depth required to put up a sustainable title challenge.
And despite their triple transfer deal, the club could still need to add in certain areas. One of them is centre-back.
As reported by The Scotsman, Celtic interest in Motherwell’s Bevis Mugabi was reported earlier and Postecoglou may consider ramping up his options in the heart of the defence.

There are a few reasons why signing another centre-back might make sense for Celtic at this point of time. The first of them is the fact that Christopher Jullien has been out of action for a long time. In fact, he did not make a single appearance in 2021.
The Frenchman is believed to be closing in on his return to the pitch but it would be very interesting to see how he performs when he does make his comeback.
On the other hand, Celtic are missing a bit of physicality in the heart of their defence, with Carl Starfelt and Stephen Welsh not exactly known for that side of their game. The Ugandan international would bring that element to Postecoglou’s side.
