Celtic-linked Martin Boyle’s transfer price tag revealed

Celtic were linked with a potential move for Martin Boyle last season as well but it did not end up materialising. In hindsight, the Hoops certainly should have tried to bring him to Parkhead as he has been nothing short of brilliant for Hibernian. Recently, the club have been rumoured with an interest in the Australian international once again, and it is not hard to see why.

First and foremost is his brilliant form. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Boyle has scored 14 goals and provided 5 assists in 27 appearances this season. One also has to remember that Hibernian have been underperforming.

Also, there is the Australian connection with Ange Postecoglou as well as the fact that Celtic are in need of more options in the wide areas, with James Forrest, Mikey Johnston, Jota and Karamoko Dembele all struggling with injury problems right now.

Boyle is still believed to have quite some time left on his current deal with Hibernian though. And as reported by The Scotsman, it would take a transfer fee around £3 million to sign him.

It is safe to say that it would be hard for Celtic to make that kind of a move this January, after also bringing in Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi.

Of course, there is the possibility that departures could open up places in Postecoglou’s squad. There are quite a few players that the club might be open to letting go.

Albian Ajeti and Vasilis Barkas, the club’s two big signings of the 2020 summer transfer window are among them. Boli Bolingoli is another, who has barely featured this season despite there being no regular left-back at Celtic right now. And Ismaila Soro has also fallen down the pecking order in recent times, and it would not be a surprise to see him depart either.
