Celtic have already made their move for the January transfer window, announcing the arrivals of Daizen Maeda from Yokohama F. Marinos, Reo Hatate from Kawasaki Frontale and Yosuke Ideguchi from Gamba Osaka. This is a faster start than anybody could have imagined, and it just shows that the club are ready to back Ange Postecoglou, which is great news for the Hoops to say the least.

Postecoglou has come in and quickly become a fan favourite at Celtic. He has already won his first trophy in Scottish football as well, guiding the club to the League Cup and as a result, ending their trophyless streak.

Celtic’s biggest problem during the time of Postecoglou has been their lack of squad depth and we have already seen him scramble for options on several occasions through the course of this campaign.

The additions of Maeda, Hatate and Ideguchi could go a long way in solving this issue and the manager seems delighted with the moves. As reported by Celtic’s official website, Postecoglou said:

"“We are really pleased to bring in these guys to Celtic and I think they are players who will excite our fans.“Clearly I am well aware of their attributes and I think in bringing all three to the club we are bringing even more quality, personality and energy to the squad to work with the players who have done so well for us already this season.“They are all really at the peak of their careers, ambitious to achieve more success and I am sure at this particular time we will be getting their best years. I am delighted to have secured these players so early in the transfer window, I look forward to working with them and myself, my backroom team and the rest of the squad will be making sure we help them settle into Celtic as quickly as possible.”"

Postecoglou reacts to Celtic’s triple signing of Maeda, Hatate and Ideguchi

Maeda and Ideguchi can prove to be especially important to Celtic as a result of their impressive versatility.

Out of the two, Maeda seems to be more ready to come in and make an immediate impact on the Celtic first-team. He topped the J1 League scoring charts in the 2021 campaign.

On the other hand, Hatate has been a standout in the J1 League for a while now as well and played a big part for back-to-back champions, Kawasaki Frontale. He is also expected to be a great signing for Celtic.

The most interesting of the three is certainly Ideguchi, who was one of the most highly-rated players in Japan a few years back but struggled during his time at Leeds United. This is his second chance in Europe to prove himself.
