Celtic are expected to make additions to their squad in the upcoming January transfer window. The Hoops do not have a lot of squad depth at the moment and bringing in reinforcements is the first thing that they need to do if they are to challenge for the Premiership title this time around, after finishing 25 points behind the Rangers in the previous campaign.

But at the same time, Celtic must also continue bringing in youngsters who can make a mark at Parkhead in the future if not immediately.

One very interesting name that they had been linked with in the summer is Linfield’s Trai Hume, who is an Under-21 Northern Ireland international.

Back then, a move did not appear to be on the cards, but now, it looks like the youngster could be on his way out of Linfield. As reported by Belfast Live, the club’s manager, David Healy, said when asked whether there was a big chance that Hume won’t be there after January:

"“I would imagine so if somebody is going to agree terms with the football club.”"

Celtic were linked with a move for Hume in the summer

Celtic were a club who were believed to be interested in the youngster in the summer but a move did not transpire back then. Now though, a Hume exit from Linfield looks very much on the cards.

There is expected to be quite a bit of interest in the youngster’s signature though as clubs like Burnley, Lincoln and Sunderland have also been linked with the talented defender at one point or another.

It is not hard to see why. Despite being just 19 years of age, Hume already has 61 senior appearances to his name according to stats from Transfermarkt and is certainly a prospect to keep an eye on.

It will be very interesting to see whether Celtic decide to revisit their potential interest in Hume. While he would not be expected to make a mark on the first-team immediately, you never know. Jeremie Frimpong proved to be a great example of that in recent times.
