Celtic will need to make additions to their squad in the January transfer window if they are to put up a sustainable title challenge against the Rangers in the Scottish Premiership this season. That became pretty clear in the first half of the campaign as we saw Ange Postecoglou’s side put in some impressive performances but also struggle with a series of injuries at the same time.

There was a lack of options all over the pitch from the very beginning and these injuries have only left it further exposed, as Postecoglou has had to scramble for options several times through the course of the season.

Fortunately, it looks like they will be looking to rectify this issue in January and do it as early as possible as well.

Rumours emerged yesterday that Celtic had agreed a move for Yokohama F. Marinos’ Daizen Maeda. And now, as reported by Yahoo Japan, Yosuke Ideguchi of Gamba Osaka will be transferred to Celtic as well.

It is safe to say that this is brilliant news for Postecoglou’s hopes of strengthening his squad in the second half of the season, as he looks to take Celtic back to the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Of course, that won’t be an easy task considering the fact that the Rangers hold a 6 point lead over them at this point of time. But with 18 league games still to be played including 3 between the two Glasgow giants, it is not impossible to overturn that lead at all.

And adding more players to his squad will only help Postecoglou in that aim. Now, it remains to be seen when or if these moves end up going through for Celtic.

Ideguchi was one of the most highly-rated players in Japan not too long ago but has seen his development stall in recent years. The talent and potential is unquestionable though and it will be interesting to see what the future holds for him.
