One area that Celtic could certainly do with more reinforcements in is their midfield. There was already a lack of options there to begin with with both James McCarthy and Ismaila Soro struggling for form under the management of Ange Postecoglou. And now, David Turnbull has picked up an injury that is expected to keep him out for a significant length of time. Thus, the Hoops might need to strengthen in the middle of the park this January.
Celtic have already been linked with moves for Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi, both of whom can play in the middle of the park. But they are being linked with another player there, who is currently playing in the Bundesliga.
That man is Borussia Monchengladbach’s Hannes Wolf, who has struggled to make an impression lately. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has made 8 appearances for Borussia Monchengladbach this season, and has not been able to provide either a goal or an assist.
He had shown tremendous potential during his time at RB Salzburg though and there is still quite a bit of interest in his signature. As reported by Bild (via Bulinews), Wolf is wanted by Celtic, Trabzonspor and Rapid Wien.
Celtic face competition in transfer race for Wolf
There is no question about Wolf’s talent and potential. He just has not gotten it going in the Bundesliga though.
As a result, a move away could be the right step for him at this point of time and at 22 years of age, he has plenty of time on his side to turn his career around.
Mostly an attacking midfielder, Wolf can also play on the flanks and thus, he could be a solid addition to Postecoglou’s squad although it is clear that the transfer race for him is going to be tough.
