Ange Postecoglou opens up on controversial Celtic decision

A lot of things have changed at Celtic over the past several months, both on the pitch and off it. The biggest change has of course been the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as manager after a very disappointing 2020/21 campaign for the Hoops. He has already brought success back to Parkhead though, guiding them to the Scottish League Cup, and will be looking to catch up with the Rangers in the Premiership in the second half of the season.

The squad is very different to the one from last season as well. Celtic signed twelve players last summer, ten on a permanent basis and two on loan. On the other hand, stars like Odsonne Edouard, Kristoffer Ajer, Ryan Christie and a few others left the club.

There have been changes behind the scenes as well though. Dom McKay would replace Peter Lawwell as the chief executive but his stay turned out to be very short. And recently, the club announced Michael Nicholson as his replacement.

That move has caused quite a bit of controversy, with a lot of fans unhappy. Postecoglou appears to have given Nicholson his backing though. As reported by The Scottish Sun, the Celtic manager said:

"“I don’t want to speak on Michael’s behalf, but when he needs to be, he’s got real firm views on what is best for this club.“And he won’t be shy in saying them — but I think the main thing about anyone in a key role is just to be yourself. Be authentic.“That’s what Michael is. He loves this club, he wants the best for it.“He’s been here quite a while, he’s seen success, he worked through the challenges of last year, so he’s seen the full spectrum and that experience is brilliant for him.“But Michael is his own man and will do it his way.”"

The upcoming January transfer window will be very important for Celtic as they need to make additions if they are to put up a sustainable title challenge.

The club have been linked with the likes of Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi recently. And if Celtic are able to pull all three off, it might not be long before the fans start viewing the appointment of Nicholson as the chief executive in a more positive light.

It remains to be seen how things turn out but exciting times could be ahead for Celtic.
