Brendan Rodgers signing admits to Celtic frustrations

Brendan Rodgers achieved tremendous success during his time at Celtic and it was during his stint as the Hoops’ manager that they were transformed into the Treble winning machine, that would go on to lift every domestic trophy in Scottish football for the next four years. It is safe to say though that the manager’s time is not as fondly remembered as it should be, due to the manner of his Parkhead exit.

Rodgers left Celtic in order to join Leicester City in the middle of the campaign. And the club had to bring in Neil Lennon in order to steady the ship.

For all his success at Celtic, there were quite a few signings he made that did not work out at all. Kundai Benyu was one of them.

Rodgers played a vital role in his move to the club but he barely featured after arriving. The midfielder has recently admitted about his frustrations during his time at Parkhead as well. As reported by Football Scotland, the former Celtic player said:

"“Brendan actually called me personally which was amazing. Aston Villa, Tottenham, West Ham and all the other clubs just sent representatives but Brendan calling was major for me.“(Later) I wasn’t angry at all but I was really frustrated because I wasn’t given a fair chance.“I believe in my ability and I was better than some people but it didn’t matter what I did in training, certain players would still get the nod ahead of me. If I said something, people would say I had a bad attitude, but I just wanted to play and show what I could do.“I have no regrets but a lot was promised that wasn’t delivered.”"

Benyu has commented on his time at Celtic

It is safe to say that Benyu’s time at Celtic did not turn out as he would have hoped when he had arrived at the club.

Since leaving, he has not managed to make a big mark somewhere else either. He currently plays for Vestri in Iceland.

Benyu is still just 24 years of age though, and has time on his side to turn things around and hopefully fulfil the potential that he had shown early on his career, even making his international debut for Zimbabwe as a teenager.

For Celtic, he was one of the number of highly-rated signings in recent years that did not just quite work out. Fortunately, things appear to be changing in that regard recently, and the club’s 2021 summer transfer window was quite successful all things considered.
